Why We Started Luma Via

The Wisconsin Reality

In Wisconsin, the statistics tell a story that many of our clients know by heart. Research shows that:

  • Trauma is widespread: Over 60% of Wisconsin adults have experienced at least one Adverse Childhood Experience (ACE).

  • The System Gap: Even though trauma is common, many people in our state report that finding a provider who actually understands trauma is the biggest barrier to getting better.

  • The "Label" Problem: In large systems, people with Medicaid often feel they are treated as a diagnosis first and a human second.

We built Luma Via to change those statistics. We aren't just another clinic on a list; we are a response to a system that often feels cold and disconnected.

What it Means to be "Truly Seen"

Being "seen" isn't just about a clinician nodding during an appointment. At Luma Via, it means:

  1. Your Story Matters More Than Your Score: We don’t look at your intake paperwork to see "what’s wrong with you." We look to understand "what happened to you" and "what you want for your future."

  2. No Clinical "Masks": You don't have to "act professional" or hide your struggle here. We meet you exactly as you are—whether you're having your best day or your hardest.

  3. Identity Honor: We recognize that in Madison, your identity, race, and background shape your mental health. Being seen means honoring your whole identity without you having to explain it.

What "Trauma-Informed" Actually Looks Like for You

"Trauma-informed care" is a big phrase, but at Luma Via, it shows up in small, powerful ways:

  • Emotional Choice: You are always in the driver’s seat. If a certain topic feels too heavy today, we pivot. You decide the pace.

  • Collaboration, Not Control: We don’t "prescribe" a life for you. We sit on the same side of the table and help you build the life you want.

  • Repairing the Past: If you’ve had bad experiences with doctors, schools, or other systems, we make it our mission to prove that care can feel different. We also strongly model this for you to use in your own life and interactions. We guide you every step!

How This Shows Up in Your Daily Life

When you choose Luma Via as your CCS provider, you aren't just getting a service faciliator. You are getting a team that helps you:

  • Build Daily Stability: We help with the "real life" stuff—routines, boundaries, and managing stress at home.

  • Feel Less Alone: You have a partner who is rooting for you and helping you navigate the complex systems of Dane County. We are resource hub masters!

  • Find Your Voice: We help you gain the confidence to advocate for yourself in all areas of your life.

A Note for CCS Service Coordinators
